EP Review: Ravenheart Music

Review from the fantastic Ravenheart Music, a site solely focussing on emerging female fronted bands.
"...Fronted by the awesome looking and awesome sounding Kitty Staunton, they give the listener a good old dose of addictive sleazy hard rock. Various influences spring to mind upon listening to this their debut EP including those of Alice Cooper. The opener ‘Fat Frog’ has a funky vibe and is a fab start to the record, with second track, the bouncy ‘Fight The Horde‘ possessing a hideously catchy chorus. The title track ‘Black Syrup’ is a cool number with Kitty taking on a slightly bluesy and a rather sexy sounding vocal style if I may say so. ‘Set In Stone’ and ‘Colourless’ end the EP in a dynamic way, the latter being a brief acoustic instrumental. Novacrow’s debut EP aims to showcase the band's eclectic style, with vivid comic-book artwork from guitarist Jonyx and is well worth checking out when it gets released in March! 8.5/10"

EP Review: Sleaze Roxx

Another EP review from the wonderful people at SLEAZE ROXX.

"...Right from the opening “Oh yeah” intro and cool bass beat to the drums and heavy guitar kicking in on opening track “Fat Frog”, I am hooked to see where the song goes. Lead singer Kitty Staunton‘s singing is next and draws me in even more. By the time that the chorus “Fat Frog” with the monster guitar riff comes in, I need to hear the entire EP before doing anything else. All I can think of is that Novacrow have a monster rhythm section, big guitar riffs and a distinctive female singer whose voice is strong enough to pierce through the stellar music. The group is also not afraid to take some risks and buck convention with its arrangements. I was actually surprised that I liked the opening song “Fat Frog” so much because Novacrow play a brand of rock that definitely has some modern overtones to it but at the same time retains the greatness and attitude of sleaze rock. In a way, the group reminds me of a cross between Halestorm and lesser known but mighty Lionsault..."

EP Review: The Moshville Times

Our first EP review and it is fantastic! The Moshville Times give 5 amazing reasons why you NEED to buy our upcoming EP- Worldwide release date 12th March 2016.

1) They Rock This band can rock. They describe themselves as sleazy vocals with heavy riffs and this is what you get but so much more. Take a track like “Fight The Horde!!!” we may have been distracted by the video but the band have some seriously great riffs right from the distinctly Skid Rowish beginning to the full band pummelling guitars all the way through. They match the music and vocals so well together, the way the bridge builds, with the stabbed vocals matching a very competent backing before they hit into the chorus is as good as anything released so far this year...

2) They don’t take themselves too seriously Have we made a video with zombies in it; tick. Do we have cartoon artwork on our EP cover; tick. Do we make songs as perversely diverse as “Fat Frog” and “Set in Stone; tick. Do we have a kazoo in a song (”Fat Frog”) double tick. Does this EP exude exuberance and make the listener smile throughout; tick again. Are we having so much fun you can hear our smiles in the playing and lyrics, tick. I think you get the picture.

3) They have a whole host of influences yet still have a fresh approach When editor Mosh first heard Novacrow he heard touches of Skid Row and Alice Cooper but there are plenty of other influences in there as well. Whether this is directly something the band would credit or just the way music reinvents itself I do not know. With songs such as “Fat Frog” you can hear The Offspring and even Alice Donot (for those who remember them). Another album that is a good reference point in its style but more so in its delivery and exuberance would be the first Terrovision album. Yet after a few listens they sound like Novacrow.

4) It’s addictive   I promise you after a couple of listens you will have this on loop. This good mood music.

5) It won’t take long before you are going to wish you’d seen them first I hope by this point you have already gone to their site and bought Black Syrup."

Interview with RealSoundsOK

Check out this great Q & A with Kitty, talking embarrassing onstage moments and highlights.

"How would you describe yourselves?

An attention-seeking bunch of performing monkeys, with a heavy hard rock sound. We put on an erection-inducing live show, fun for the whole family.

Who are your main influences, musically?

A big mix of things including; Type O Negative, Alice in Chains, Joan Jett, Machine Head, Pink Floyd, Skindred and Alice Cooper.

What do you hope to achieve in music?

Predictably, the dream would be to make music my full-time career and tour every corner of the world. I guess another personal achievement would be to encourage more girls to take an interest in playing guitar and making music. Apart from a few fantastic exceptions, overall as there is a strange lack of female guitarists in the rock and metal world!..."

Reviews:

"Straight from the get-go these guys brought so much fire. They just went absolutely crazy on the stage."

- Valkyrian Music.

" This band is a sensational live act, they have Kitty who provides glamour, hard rockin’ riffs and a sensual stage presence, contrasted with the tumultuous Freddy who is transformed once onstage from a nice guy into something resembling the Tasmanian Devil from the cartoons, only with a bass in hand! They have dates across the country and some international appearances too for 2018, if you like your live bands to be LIVE, they don’t get much livelier than Novacrow."

-Caught Live

"Novacrow are easily one of the best bands on this scene and they know how to entertain!" "The masters of onstage banter" -Cult of Dan Peach

-Real Gone

"Addictive sleazy hard rock"- 8.5/10
- Ravenheart Music

"With Kitty's riot grrrl vocals leading the charge, Jonyx's riff-firing artillery matched by Torben's thunderous drums and Federico's slap-happy bass meshing together to deliver the 'Black Syrup' EP, utmost respect must be given to this snazzy lot."
-Global Metal Apocalpyse

"Why do people watch crappy talent shows on TV when there are great bands like Novacrow playing live."
- The Mighty Thor Promotions, Birmingham.

"Novacrow have a monster rhythm section, big guitar riffs and a distinctive female singer whose voice is strong enough to pierce through the stellar music."
- Sleaze Roxx

"What really catches the eye is yet another addition to annals of Rock from the West Midlands, the natural home of the genre, the impressive Kitty Staunton on guitar and vocals, a woman whose stature is only dwarfed by her ability to wield both machines of war with precision and grace."
- Liverpool Sound & Vision, live review.
